  • We have selected Jessica Makler, English, and Kyle Moss, Journalism, as Departmental Scholars for the fall 2007 semester. Annette Glotfelty, English, and Charles Davis, Journalism, have been nominated for the Lincoln Laureate Award. Congratulations to these outstanding students!
  • News Release: Provost's Awards of Excellence Winners include Bradley Dilger, English and journalism associate professor, is the recipient of the Excellence in Teaching in Technology Award for taking great strides in improving the technological abilities of his students. "One of Dr. Dilger's main goals is not to just show technology, but to help the user apply technology tools meaningfully and effectively," the committee stated. "He uses a variety of technologies in his classroom: social bookmarking, photo sharing services and citation managers. After learning how a technology works, students must create their own projects using these services. Dr. Dilger has become a major resource on web accessibility and provides guidance for campus policies on accessibility. He has presented on this topic nationally and was awarded the President's Excellence in Diversity Award for Accessible Course Design."
  • News Release 1 & News Release 2: CAS Retiree Reception including John Mann, English professor, who joined the Western faculty in 1971; Mann, the recipient of the CAS Outstanding Teacher Award in 1995 and the College Award for Outstanding Research in 2004, came to Western in 1971. He also received three National Endowment for the Arts grants and four Illinois Arts Council grants. His specialty lies in American poetry. He has published more than 100 poems in literary magazines and anthologies; and in 2002, Mann received an Illinois Arts Council Poetry Fellowship for his manuscript of 15 poems titled, "Book of Mann."
