Rebecca McLean joined Western Illinois University - Quad Cities in January 2011 as a Professor in the Department of Counselor Education and served as the departmental Chairperson from 2011-2014. Prior to coming to WIU - Quad Cities, she was on faculty at the University of Arkansas for almost a decade. Dr. McLean received her Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology and Master of Education degree in Community Counseling from Kent State University. She received her Ph.D. in Guidance and Counseling with a specialization in Counselor Education and Supervision from the University of Akron. Dr. McLean counseled clients in a variety of settings including an outpatient community mental health center for adults with severe emotional disabilities, two university counseling and development centers, two parochial family service agencies, and in private practice. Additionally, she worked as an Emergency Clinician for a County Psychiatric Emergency Services and volunteered with the American Red Cross Disaster Services Unit. Dr. McLean has an extensive teaching, research, and service record. She taught 20 different courses in the Counseling area (including the development and facilitation of online courses) and assisted in the Educational Statistics and Research Methods and Educational Technology areas. She has in excess of 35 publications and 100 presentations. Dr. McLean was the principal/co-principal investigator or team member on research endeavors that were successful in developing grant proposals that were awarded external funds in excess of $700,000. In addition to disseminating her research findings through publication, she facilitated the utilization of findings by conducting workshops and seminars at the international, national, regional, state, and local levels. Dr. McLean’s research interests include measurement and evaluation in counseling, counseling/clinical/supervision, and at-risk children (peer victimization/bullying, academic, behavior, and social problems). Dr. McLean is a site-visit team member for the Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs (CACREP) and has over a decade of CACREP-related activities. She served as the 2014 AARC National Assessment & Research Conference Chair and was Editor of Counseling Outcome Research & Evaluation (CORE) from 2013-2017. Professional organizations include the American Counseling Association, American Association for Counselor Education and Supervision, American Association for Creativity in Counseling, North Central Association for Counselor Education and Supervision, and Chi Sigma Iota. She is the 2017 recipient of the NCACES Deanna Hawes Outstanding Mentor Award and is the 2019-2020 NCACES Member-at-Large. Dr. McLean loves musicals and operas, gourmet cooking, sailing and downhill skiing, taking long walks, and is an enthusiastic sports fan.
