August 22, 2024
Just Hired! Through the experiences of local, regional, national and international students, Western Illinois University has some incredible alumni who are changing the world in the workforce. This series will feature students from all over the world who are hired post-graduation.
MACOMB/MOLINE, IL - - Meet Clayton Walch, a Spring 2024 graduate in Agriculture Science, focusing on Agronomy and Precision Ag, who recently accepted a position at Nutrien Ag Solutions as a Crop Consultant at the Sullivan, IL, retail branch.
Walch worked with a professional career recruiter who was very helpful in finding him this opportunity.
"He set me up an interview with the division seed manager and days later I had an interview at the Sullivan branch with the location manager and a few weeks later, I was offered a position," Walch said.
Walch feels WIU allowed him to further build his knowledge in agronomy, with the professors he had in the School of Ag.
"I was able to get valuable hands-on experience, allowing me to be better prepared for the career I wanted to pursue in Ag," Walch said. "In addition to my great work experience, my education experience from WIU and the awesome faculty aided me in being qualified to take on this opportunity.
Walch plans on staying involved with the WIU Alumni Association and visiting the campus and Macomb community for special events when he can.
"Football games, tailgates, sporting events and the annual Food Family Farming Football event, oh and being the president of WIU Alpha Gamma Sigma Alumni Chapter will allow me to be present and stay involved," Walch said.
