September 12, 2024
Just Hired! Through the experiences of local, regional, national and international students, Western Illinois University has some incredible alumni who are changing the world in the workforce. This series will feature students from all over the world who are hired post-graduation.
MOLINE, IL - - Meet Alexandra Nasharr, a 2024 Museum Studies graduate who recently started a job with the Osceola County Welcome Center and History Museum in Kissimmee, FL.
Nasharr said she found the job by staying diligent on job boards and finding the right opportunity.
"After thoroughly researching the institution and providing them with my resume, references and letter of interest I was invited to meet with the museum's team virtually," Nasharr said. "The interview was composed of me describing my current role as a gallery host at the Figge (Art Museum) but my desire to utilize my background and skills to their full extent."
Working at the Osceola County Welcome Center and History Museum has been a great experience for Nasharr, as it serves as a historical society with local history exhibits as well as a historic Pioneer Village. She credited WIU's Museum Studies program for preparing her for her new career down in Florida.
"I gained valuable insights and mentoring from both my instructors, Heidi Lung and Angela McClanahan-Simmons," Nasharr said. "I would not have had the edge in this interview without the material culture and collections management knowledge I gained from the Museum Studies Program at WIU."
Nasharr said she hopes to offer guidance and encouragement to future students in the Museum Studies program, just as she received.
"My peers and previous graduates were very helpful and understanding while I was on the job hunt," she said. "The support was limitless."
