MACOMB/MOLINE, IL – Former Western Illinois University Field Supervisor for Clinical Experiences Keith George Erickson, 80, passed away on January 7, after a seven-year battle with esophageal cancer.

Erickson was a dedicated educator and administrator who served WIU by mentoring future educators in their clinical experiences. He also taught Spanish at United Township High School in East Moline, where he served as Chair of the foreign language department and later became Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Personnel.

A lifelong learner, Erickson earned his bachelor's in ‘66 and master's degrees ‘'71 in Spanish from Illinois State University and a Ph.D. in Educational Administration from the University of Iowa in ‘83.

Erickson's deep faith, rooted in his upbringing in a Baptist family of five siblings, guided his life. He was an active community member, working with individuals overcoming addiction and embodying a strong belief in Jesus Christ's redemptive and victorious power. His Scandinavian heritage shaped his tireless work ethic, and he was known for his warmth, humor and love of sharing Scandinavian jokes.

A gifted tenor, Erickson's love of music enriched those around him, a passion he passed on to his two sons and six grandchildren.
