Beverly Baker Obituary

MACOMB, IL - - Former Western Illinois University Help Desk Manager for the Computer Support Department Beverly J. Baker, 67, passed away on Monday, Jan.27, at Blessing Hospital in Quincy, IL.

Baker had a passion for learning and helping others. At WIU, she pursued a master's degree in Recreation, Parks, Tourism and Administration. She worked as an I.T. specialist as the Help Desk Manager for the Computer Support Department for 21 years, where she was known for her problem-solving skills and expertise.

Beyond her time at WIU, Baker enjoyed a life of commitment. She served her country in the United States Navy, where she met her lifetime husband. Baker was a devout member of Immaculate Conception of Carthage, her faith and beliefs shaped her kindness. She was also the founder of Friends of Argyle Lake State Park, an organization dedicated to connecting the community with the park's natural beauty.

As an enthusiast of life, Baker had multiple interests. She found joy in reading, college sports, traveling and the outdoors. She was actively involved in the community and many appreciated her joyful presence and culinary skills.

Baker's legacy of love and adventure will live on through her husband, Boyd; her children, Micky Roberts, Shannon Kissinger (Earl Varner) and Keegan Baker; her eight grandchildren, Ashtin Roberts, Ryan Roberts (Aurora), Ezra Roberts, Logan Kissinger (Camryn), Levi Kissinger, Kendra Kissinger, Kipton Kissinger and Emily Baker; and her great-grandchild, Riley Roberts, with another on the way.

She is also survived by her in-laws, Jean Holt (Phil), Neal Baker, Bruce Baker (Jill) and Linda Baker; her brother, K.C. Collum, E. Hampton, her uncle, Edmond "Bud" Collum; and cousins Kenneth Collum (Cheryl), Kathrine Gibbons (Tom), Maureen Cooper (Thomas), Molly Standley (Brian) and Marty Watson, as well as many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her aunt, Shelia Collum; her mother-in-law, Doris Shaffer; brother-in-law, R.C. Baker; sister-in-law, Cathe Baker; and niece, Jennifer Wiemelt.

A memorial service was recently held to honor her life and legacy.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests planting a tree. Memorial contributions may be made to Friends of Argyle Lake.
