WIU Ranks in U.S. News and World Report 2025

MACOMB/MOLINE, IL - - Western Illinois University continues to earn recognition for its academic excellence and commitment to student success in the latest U.S. News and World Report rankings.

WIU has been ranked #57 in the "Regional Universities Midwest" category, providing quality education and encouraging student achievement.

In addition to its regional recognition, WIU stands out in several specialized categories:

#16 in Top Public Schools
#55 in Best Value Schools
#27 in Best Colleges for Veterans (tie)
#44 in Top Performers on Social Mobility (tie)

Western is recognized for its undergraduate engineering programs, the least debt and the highest proportion of classes under 20 students.

WIU President Kristi Mindrup commends the WIU community, faculty, staff and students for their efforts in providing a standout educational experience.

The U.S. News Best Colleges rankings evaluate institutions on multiple criteria, including graduation and retention rates, social mobility, faculty resources, financial resources, student excellence and alumni giving. These accolades highlight WIU's ongoing efforts to adapt to workforce needs and provide a robust educational experience.
