MACOMB, IL - - Alumnus Sai Krishna Sharabu fondly reflects on the unique community Western Illinois University offers.
"When I think about WIU, I think about a community that fosters growth, learning and lifelong connections," Sharabu said.
For Sharabu, being a Leatherneck means being a resilient and determined member of the community.
"A Leatherneck means embodying resilience, determination and pride in being part of a strong and supportive community," Sharabu said.
Remarking his love for the community on campus, Sharabu's favorite WIU memory is sharing with his friends and making connections.
"My favorite Leatherneck memory is celebrating countless moments with friends I've made here, sharing joy and creating lasting connections," Sharabu said.
Motivated by his appreciation for WIU, Sharabu continues to be involved by inviting others to join the community.
"I loved WIU so much that I decided to join my wife here as well," Sharabu said. "She's doing her masters right now and she loves WIU too."
Sharabu advises prospective students to seize the opportunity to be part of WIU and consider building lifelong experiences and relationships.
"My advice for someone considering WIU is to embrace everything it offers—get involved in campus activities, volunteer and build connections. College is about more than just studying; it's about creating experiences and relationships that last a lifetime," Sharabu said.
As we honor 125 years of educational excellence, we invite local WIU students, alumni and community members to share their stories and be featured in our series. Contact University Communications at U-Communications@wiu.edu to participate.
