MACOMB, IL - - Western Illinois University is proud to announce that its School of Nursing has been granted full accreditation by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) for a 10-year term, extending through June 30, 2035.

Achieving CCNE accreditation is a significant milestone, reflecting the School of Nursing's commitment to excellence in nursing education and continuous improvement. The accreditation process, known for its rigor and depth, began with the submission of a comprehensive self-study report in July 2024. The report, authored and approved by the School of Nursing's dedicated faculty and leadership team, was followed by an on-site evaluation conducted by the CCNE team from October 9–11, 2024.

"This accreditation validates the quality and integrity of our nursing program and highlights the outstanding work of our faculty, staff and students," said Dr. Patty Eathington, director of the WIU School of Nursing. "It affirms that we are meeting national standards and preparing highly competent, compassionate nursing professionals."

Accreditation is not only a symbol of quality but also a requirement. The state of Illinois mandates that all nursing programs obtain and maintain programmatic accreditation from a national accrediting agency recognized by the U.S. Department of Education and approved by the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation (IDFPR). CCNE accreditation ensures that WIU's nursing program meets these critical regulatory standards, enabling graduates to pursue licensure and professional opportunities with confidence.

WIU remains committed to preparing nurses who will lead and innovate in a rapidly evolving healthcare environment. This 10-year accreditation reflects the university's long-standing dedication to academic excellence and public service.
