Mayborn Named CAS Interim Dean

MACOMB, IL - - The Western Illinois University College of Arts and Sciences (CAS) has named Kyle Mayborn as the interim dean, effective July 1, 2025.

Mayborn previously served as the CAS associate dean, as well as a professor of geology, a member of the CAS Curriculum Committee and on the CAS College Personnel Committee.

"I'm honored to serve as Interim Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences," Mayborn said. "It's a privilege to work alongside our dedicated faculty and staff as we support our students and advance the mission of the college. I'm committed to leading CAS in its continued efforts to enhance student education and well-being."

Prior to joining WIU in 2000, Mayborn earned his Ph.D. from the University of California - Davis, where he studied the evolution of magma as recorded in the rocks of west Greenland.

"Kyle's professionalism and commitment to both the College and WIU are unmatched," WIU Interim Provost Mark Mossman said. "His previous work as an Associate Dean, and as a faculty leader in the College, give him a solid foundation and the useful experiences he needs for this role. He's already hit the ground running in the Dean's Office and I look forward to working with him."
