Viner Named November EOM
November 18, 2025
MACOMB, IL — Western Illinois University Communications Coordinator Aaron Viner ('14), with University Communications and Marketing, has been named the November 2025 Al and Elaine Goldfarb Civil Service Employee of the Month.
Viner has demonstrated exceptional dedication, reliability and professionalism, consistently going above and beyond his job responsibilities to support the University's communications operations. Over the past year, he has taken on several additional duties that have had a significant positive impact across campus, including overseeing University announcements and managing both the student and employee digests—roles that require precision, timeliness and a strong understanding of WIU's institutional voice.
When team members are on maternity leave, medical leave or PTO, Viner is quick to step up, ensuring that essential messages and materials continue to reach the University community without interruption. His initiative and dependability keep WIU's communications seamless and consistent.
In addition to his operational excellence, Viner embodies WIU's core value of personal growth. He has actively expanded his skills in coding, PR writing, APA style and editing—continually improving his craft and enhancing the efficiency of the department. He also manages critical functions such as the University's emergency notification system and OPS reports, responsibilities that demand precision and trust.
Beyond his technical strengths, Viner's kindness, thoughtfulness and collaborative spirit make him a valued member of the team. A proud WIU alumnus who recently returned to Macomb, he brings a deep sense of pride and enthusiasm for the University and community to every project he undertakes.
"Aaron has truly evolved into a cornerstone of our communications team," his nominator said. "His dedication, professionalism and continual growth reflect the very best of WIU's values."
As the Civil Service Employee of the Month, Viner will receive a $100 stipend (before taxes), a plaque, a reserved parking space and recognition in WIU communications. He will also be eligible for the Civil Service Employee of the Year Award in December.
The Al and Elaine Goldfarb Civil Service Employee of the Month Award was established in 2010 through an endowment created by the Goldfarbs. The WIU Foundation provides a $500 stipend for the annual Employee of the Year Award.
WIU faculty, staff, administrators, and community members who wish to nominate a Civil Service employee for monthly recognition can contact the Civil Service Employees Council at csec-nominations-g@wiu.edu.
