Just Hired! Through the experiences of local, regional, national and international students, Western Illinois University has some incredible alumni who are changing the world in the workforce. This series will feature students from all over the world who are hired post-graduation.

MACOMB, IL - - Meet Alidia Smith, a graduate of Western Illinois University's Law Enforcement and Justice Administration (LEJA) program, who was hired by the Roscoe Police Department as a police officer in Roscoe, IL.

Smith went through a written, psychological, and medical exam as well as an oral interview for the job.

After the interview, they later told her they believed she was being completely honest and she was in the field for the right reasons and offered her a job not too long after the interview.

"If I remained complacent where I was when I started freshman year, I would absolutely not be the person I am today," Smith said. "I would not be able to handle all of the things it takes to be a police officer if I didn't learn who I am."

Smith was a 2025 graduate and was part of a sorority Alpha Sigma Alpha when she attended WIU.
