MACOMB/MOLINE, IL — The Western Illinois University Illinois Small Business Development Center (SBDC) has been recognized with the Community Partner Award by Mercado on Fifth during its 10th Anniversary Celebration, honoring a decade of community impact, cultural enrichment and support for local entrepreneurs and small businesses throughout the Quad Cities region.

The award recognizes the Illinois SBDC at WIU for its continued commitment to strengthening the local business ecosystem through outreach, technical assistance and sustained partnerships with community organizations dedicated to small business growth.

During the celebration, representatives of the SBDC expressed appreciation for the recognition and for Mercado on Fifth's role in fostering opportunity within the community. They also extended gratitude to community organizations, leaders, partners and especially the small business owners and entrepreneurs whose efforts continue to drive regional economic development.

"This recognition is deeply meaningful because it highlights the importance of supporting small businesses, particularly within minority communities," noted the SBDC staff. "Small businesses do more than create jobs. They create hope, preserve culture, strengthen neighborhoods and open doors for future generations."

The Illinois SBDC at WIU emphasized that the award reflects the broader mission of empowering entrepreneurs through access to resources, guidance and collaborative support networks. The center reaffirmed its commitment to serving the region and continuing to build pathways for sustainable business success.

The 10th Anniversary Celebration of Mercado on Fifth brought together community partners and stakeholders to recognize a decade of progress in advancing inclusive economic opportunity and celebrating the cultural vibrancy of the region.
