WIU Mourns the Death of Student Keagan Beckner

MACOMB, IL - - Western Illinois University community is saddened to learn of the death of WIU senior English major Keagan Beckner, of Bushnell, IL, who passed away June 26.

Beckner was pursuing a degree in English Education. He was known by family, friends and classmates for his kindness, infectious sense of humor and love of writing, music and storytelling. He hoped to one day become a professor and inspire others through literature.

"Keagan's smile was infectious and he brought humor and light into the classroom. He was so excited to start his teaching journey and loved being in the classroom and working with young people," Professor Rebakah Buchanan said. "The English Education community at WIU will miss him dearly."

"The loss of a student is felt across our entire University community," WIU President Kristi Mindrup said. "Keagan was known for his compassion, sense of humor and his ability to bring people together. As we remember his life, we extend our heartfelt sympathy to his family, friends, classmates and everyone whose lives he touched."

A visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m. Thursday, July 2. The funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Friday, July 3, both at the Community Christian Center in Bushnell.
