WIU Department of Art & Design Hosts September “First Wednesday” Event

MACOMB, IL - - The Western Illinois University Department of Art & Design is excited to present its September "First Wednesday" event from 7-9 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 2, in Garwood Hall, the Heating Plant Annex, and the University Art Gallery.

First Wednesday is a free event held on the first Wednesday of each month during the semester, featuring hands-on art projects taught by the Art & Design faculty and current students across various media.

September 2026 activities include the following:

Garwood Hall


  • Surrealistic Stencil Drawings - Professor Tim Waldrop, Garwood 3

  • Paw-some Cats in Art: An Art Historical Scavenger Hunt with Prizes! - Professor Sherry Lindquist, Garwood 10

  • Screenprint your own "WIU apparel" - Please bring your own clothes to print WIU logos on - Professor Susan Czechowski, Garwood 11

  • Fall Themed Leaf Decorations - Art Education Students, Garwood 24

  • Sunflower Watercolor Paintings - Professor Damon McArthur, Garwood 25

  • Copper Roller Printing - Professor Kat Myers, HPA 107

  • "One Inch Clay Challenge" - Professor Ian Shelly, HPA 111


The University Art Gallery will also be open during the event with the exhibition:
Mayuko Ono Gray "This Too, Shall Pass."
