Dr. Jennifer Burek-Pierce University of Iowa Professor of Library and Information Science is the author of several books, most recently Narratives, Nerdfighters and New Media (UIowa Press, 2020). With her research awards and expertise in library history, and several years as a practicing librarian, she now anchors SLIS's course for entering students, Libraries, Culture, and Society.
The Maurine Magliocco Lecture Series in the Department of English was established in October 2006. The $30,000 endowment commitment supports an annual lecture in literature, film, theory or the state of the discipline. Magliocco taught English at Western for 37 years and retired in 2004.
