Ensemble Placement Auditions

University Bands Ensemble Audition Process

An ensemble placement audition is required for talent grant recipients, as well as music majors and non-majors wishing to participate in Wind Ensemble & Concert Band.

All auditions will be live and on campus.

Student Audition Process:

  • Download audition music by clicking the "Download Audition Music" tab
  • See "Audition Schedule" tab on this page to find your time and room
  • Show up to the room 10 minutes before your audition time and sign up for a time (see graduate student in charge)
  • When it's your time, you will enter the room and play for the adjudicators (unable to see you/behind a screen)
  • You may be asked scales and a short sight-reading demo will be requested

Results:

  • A committee will meet and coordinate results with Talent Grant Assignments
  • Ensemble placements will be uploaded to the "Audition Results" tab.
  • If you are assigned an instrument you may not own (bass clarinet, baritone sax, etc.) meet with your director before the first rehearsal. You will receive an instrument checkout form to take to the instrument room to acquire the instrument.

Audition for Westernettes Dance Team

The The Westernettes Dance Team is the Division I collegiate dance team for Western Illinois University. During the fall, we are part of the Marching Leathernecks, where we perform at all home football games and with the marching band in parades, half-time shows, side-lines, and the Marching Band Classic.

During the winter months, we are part of the WIU Pep Band and perform at all home men's and women's basketball games, which can include travelling and performing at the nationally televised Summit League Basketball Tournament in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.

The team's foremost purpose is to support Leatherneck Athletics, enhancing game excitement and crowd involvement. If you would like to know more information about the team please feel free to browse our website Westernettes Dance Team
